We had a great time on the 4th with my brother Randy and his family. The kids swam and we grilled hotdogs and hamburgers. We then went to see the cities fireworks later that evening. Here is a picture of Kassie and Emily on the wave rocker.

We could see fireworks from here. And, of course, they were going off all night around us. On the 5th we went to Fred's Dad to set some off with his family. What is it with men and blowing stuff up? ;-)
I need to look up the origin of fireworks? Is it supposed to symbolize the war? Did Washington himself say, "Hey, let's blow something up to celebrate"?
"Congress led the way for the encouragement of fireworks on the Fourth of July by authorizing a display on July 4, 1777, in Philadelphia, a year after the signing of the Declaration of Independence. “At night there was a grand exhibition of fireworks, which began and concluded with thirteen rockets on the commons. Another colorful display took place in Philadelphia on July 4, 1779: “In the evening a sett [sic] of brilliant fireworks were exhibited, particularly excellent rockets, which, after ascending to an amazing height in the air, burst, and displayed thirteen stars.”
WOW. I learn something new every day. I'm sure I knew this at one point, and just forgot. I have a habit of doing that.
